We all
struggle periodically through our lives. Not all change indicates growth. The keys to
living a full life include:
overcoming obstacles, identifying and growing from our choices,
keeping an open
mind, and learning from those around us. Often, the lowest times in our
lives provide us with our greatest growth
opportunities.
Change is a
dynamic process that incorporates many facets of ourselves and others in
our
lives. While some change occurs
naturally and without any effort, people generally
have to work to make the
changes that they want or need in their lives. Therapy is one
method of having assistance to make impactful, meaningful
change—change that leads
to growth. It
is a process with a guide, the therapist, helping you on your journey, tailoring
the process to your unique needs. While
there are steps that only you can take, you need not
travel alone. The process of change and development occurs
in the context of an empathic therapeutic alliance.
Emanating growth
is growth that stems from an internal place. This change then radiates
outward from our self, interacting with our
world. As social creatures, our changes
will touch
those around us. Others may
embrace or resist the changes that we manifest. Therapy can
help you to predict and prepare for these reactions.
Growth is sustained change
that is embraced and incorporated into our lives, allowing
us to reach our full
potential and become the person we are uniquely meant to be.
